KRP's Inaugural Weekend = Success!

Kalaeloa Raceway Park's inaugural weekend of events is now officially a success!  Even with severe competition from several other events, we had a huge turnout...in just two days we have cemented KRP as the official home of motorsports!  What a validation...over 4,000 spectators attended the Sand Drags.  KRP was simply packed with people and most importantly, racers!  In addition, SCCA RallyCross was held on Saturday, and in the process opened up a new form of motorsports on Oahu for the first time ever!   It was truly an epic weekend!  And historically, this is the return of a dedicated motorsports facility since Hawaii Raceway Park's closure in April 2006!

We would like to thank everyone that has volunteered, supported, and attended our first ever events at KRP.  A huge "Mahalo!" to George & Jeanette Grace III as well as the rest of the Grace Ohana for making this happen.  You did it!  Thanks to Avery Tsui and Bobby Enos as well as their dedicated crew for putting on such spectacular events.  Thank you to my partners, Tom Bryant & Chris Messer for helping KRP come to fruition through the past few years of hard work and dedication.  We did it!  In addition, thank you to our concessionares and volunteers, including those from the 735th Air Mobility Squadron, USAF!

There was a deluge of coverage...KHON2 was all over the park this weekend, KITV came out and did a great story, Island Driver TV was on-hand, as well as Hawaii Motorsports News.  In addition, over 900 photos and hours of video were taken.  Within the coming week, this official website will be updated with results, photos, and video. In addition, we'll be working on getting a DVD out for distribution!  Please keep checking back this week!  We're all still recovering from the amazing experience this weekend brought forth!

For now, please check out the following news coverage links:

KHON2 - Grand opening of new raceway park in Kalaeloa this weekend

KITV - Drivers Rev Engines For New Kalaeloa Raceway

KHON2 - Kalaeloa Raceway Park Inaugural Sand-Drag Race

In addition, please check out our BTT! Facebook page and KRP Facebook pages, where we've posted over 500+ photos of the events this weekend as well as additional results & info!

In support of KRP!

Dear Motorsports Enthusiasts & Supporters,

With the recent creation of an anti-KRP Facebook page by Evelyn Souza, as well as the constant attacks on our project, we simply felt it would be appropriate to show all of our motorsports enthusiasts and supporters just exactly what we have been up against for the past few years. It is a personal and biased vendetta that has caused us a great deal of hardship and has delayed our progress. It's hard to believe that at one time, she was on our side. In the end, we only ask that if you support Kalaeloa Raceway Park to please let DHHL & the HCDA know so that we may counter this negative propaganda! Call or write-in, and let your voices be heard!

Please follow the below link for an informative anti-KRP email we recently received. (Link fixed!)

KRP! Open for business!

Kalaeloa Raceway Park is now open!

It's a fantastic day for Oahu motorsports enthusiasts!  KRP is now officially authorized to begin running events!  To set the record straight, we are a grassroots effort that will be running what we can on what we have available.  Nothing is fully constructed yet, but we are well on our way.  The facility will be constructed in phases with the first events consisting primarily dirt and mixed-terrain motorsports such as Sand/Mud Drags, Rally Cross, etc.

Our first Rallycross event will be held on Saturday, Sept 25th, with the first Sand Drag event the following day on Sunday, Sept 26th.  Early in the month of October, there will be an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new 1/4th mile Dirt Oval.  This is the first phase of the project.

The next phase will be the construction of the asphalt racing surfaces necessary to do drifting, autocross, go-karting, etc.  For drag racers, we are working through the process in order to facilitate the construction of a drag strip...the best we can do at the moment will be a 60-footer test N' tune launch pad/burnout box, possibly more.

Drag racers, please be patient with us as we are doing our best to provide for you and we are working on some big plans for you. There will be much more to come...this is a very long term project, and although we cannot provide for everyone immediately, our eventual goal is to do just that.  It will just take time, money, and most importantly, your support.

We would like to thank Leolani Kini, our rep for DHHL, whose support has been sorely appreciated.  Thanks to the Department of Hawaiian Homelands for making this project a reality as well as our contacts at the City and State as well as the community organizations that have walked this journey with us.

It is with great pride and appreciation that I would like to thank my fellow KRP Project Members...George & Jeanette Grace Jr., Chris Messer, Tom Bryant, Koa, Keoki, Hungry (there's so many!)...basically ALL of the hard working Paradise Lua crew that are out there actually BUILDING the track, and every single person that has put forth the effort and support to making this day and this dream happen.

We would like to give special thanks and love to our wives for standing by us for the past three and a half years as we put our hearts and souls into this project.  This is an unbelievable blessing...and something long overdue for our community of dedicated motorsports enthusiasts.

And finally, again, special thanks to George & Jeanette Grace Jr.  Without their love, their dedication, and their "putting their money where their mouth is"...this simply wouldn't have become a reality.

If you are interested in how you can help, how you can support, or have any questions or comments, please send your email to chairman@buildthetrack.com

Mahalo to all of you, thank you for your support, and see you at the races at KRP!

RIP Wilfred "Da Bear" Moniz - August 27, 1947 ‐ August 5, 2010

RIP Wilfred "Da Bear" Moniz. Our condolences to the Moniz family. Please pass this press release on for his funderal & memorial to be held tomorrow at 5:30 at Mililani Memorial Park. It is the family's express wishes that we all remember those who had such passion for racing, but will not be able to see a new facility on Oahu. We will have a memorial race for those passed, and in their honor at the earliest opportunity.
