Written by Administrator Tuesday, 14 December 2010 17:36
We'd like to thank all of the particpants and spectators that attended our 3rd HulaCross event! We had a noticeable increase in attendance for this event, proving that the word of mouth is becoming strong! If you've never been to a HulaCross event, you are missing out on what is fast becoming one of the most exciting motorsport events ever on Oahu. Carnage-filled and amazing to watch, our drivers take it to the wall every time and put their vehicles on the line for the sheer thrill of it. Every event is filled to the brim with incredible action and family-friendly entertainment. Our next event is scheduled for January 15th, 2011 and will kick off the first ever, year-long season for Hula-X! You can see all the photos at our official Facebook page - Kalaeloa Raceway Park!
Final Results may be found under the Motorsports > Hula-X > Results link on the navigation bar above or by clicking the following link!
If you think it takes alot to get into HulaCross, you're in for a real surprise. You don't need a purpose-built racecar...you just need four wheels and at least two doors! We've got vehicles racing out there that run the gauntlet from Honda Accords, Chevy Blazers, Ford Rangers to even Lincoln Towncars and Oldsmobiles! It's cheap, and it's good fun...just go to your local junkyard, buy a cheap beater, paint some numbers on it and bring it out! Of course, we've got guys out there that are starting to build awesome vehicles for the event, like Steve Oliberos and his rally-prepped S13, or Davin Kubo with his Subaru WRX...things are starting to heat up between the serious competitors, and we can't wait to see what happens next year!
For this event, we introduced what many of our stock car racers have been screaming for: True Wheel 2 Wheel Racing! We had FIVE fantastic heats of Hulagan Racing...which is our new flag to flag racing series. The top two winners of each Heat advanced to the final Main event. This was a trial event that resulted in some of the best racing we've had thus far at KRP and was an extreme crowd-pleaser. We're very happy with the Hulagan Racing format and are now set for the January Season where we'll introduce a Championship series for the both the HulaCross and Hulagan Racing! The winner of this informal main was Shane Moniz with his Jeep Cherokee, 2nd place was Chad Moniz in his Ford Explorer, and third went to Ryan Evans in his Honda Odyssey Go-Kart!!!! (Ryan has some huge...lug nuts!)
We're still working out the kinks on our HulaCross timing systems, but we'll be doing some serious testing before the next event to make sure we've got the system timers working properly. We want to put as many cars on the track as we can to keep things exciting, so be watching for changes to the format, HulaCross time attackers!
In addition, we held our first ever All Wahine Challenge with a combined purse value of $435 dollars! These girls went out and raced on a whim, with some great crowd support. The racing was pretty awesome, and there was tons of cheering as they pulled out the guts to do some pretty daring bumping and grinding! We'd like to thank the sponsors that put the purse up for grabs:
- Paradise Lua - $100
- North Shore Nails Salon - $100 Gift Certificate
- Refrigerant Recycling, Inc. - $100
- Aiwohi Trucking - $100
- Young Hawaiian Surfboards - $20
- Private Spectator Donation - $15
Finally, we'd like to congratulate our winners in the following photos...awarded by Co-Developer & Park Owner Jeanette Grace:
Fastest Time - Steven Oliberos - 59.97 - $100
2nd Fastest time - Davin Kubo - 1:01.00 - $75
3rd Fastest Time - Shane Moniz - 1:02.03 - $50
Wild Wahine Challenge Winner - Josie Smith - $435
HulaCross Wheel2Wheel Racing on Sunday, December 12th!
Written by Administrator Friday, 03 December 2010 13:40
We'd like to thank you for your past participation and invite you to the next HulaCross event to be held on Sunday, December 12th, 2010 at Kalaeloa Raceway Park! SCCA Folks, we're sorry but we're unable to hold it on our normal day because we'll be participating in the Kapolei Light Parade. FYI, All future events should fall on the second Saturday of every month.
With the holiday season upon us, we know that your time is valuable, but we appreciate your support in developing HulaCross over the past few months. We would like to present our preliminary rules for the upcoming 2011 HulaCross Season. Please take the time to read through the new changes we'll be making as well as noting the new safety requirements. The morning practice will be exactly the same as the last event, with open lapping. The afternoon, however, will introduce two new divisions: Hulagan Racing & HulaCross.
You can also find the rules on the navigation bar above under Motorsports > Hula-X > Rules
PLEASE NOTE: The Official HulaCross rules are not FINAL. They will be discussed at the Dec 12th with our participants. That is why we're not requiring anything to be done for this event. We want to make sure everyone is comfortable and understands the safety requirements for the vehicles.
Hulagan Racing = Wheel 2 Wheel Racing
The 12th will be a landmark event for us as we will be introducing for the first time ever, a flag-to-flag wheel-2-wheel racing component. Willing participants will compete in a lapped race with the first person across the finish line as the winner! This upcoming event will be considered as a trial basis. Due to the short notice, we will not require you to have all of the safety equipment for the December 12th event, but it is highly recommended. To participate in the 2011 Hulagan Racing series you WILL BE REQUIRED to have all of the safety equipment indicated as necessary within the attached rules. Safety equipment noted as recommended are not mandatory but are EXTREMELY encouraged.
We will be re-introducing the use of timers at this next event. For all former Super Lap Series competitors, you may remember the small Hot Lap Timers purchased from www.pegasusautoracing.com. We will be using these once again, so if you still have your old timers, then please make sure to bring them out to the events. For those of you that do not have the Hot Lap Timers, we have 8 of them for rent ($10) which will most likely allow us to run the entire field if we swap them out between runs.
FYI, the old timer design has been discontinued. The new version is called the Hot Lap LTI In-Car Timing System, and retails for about $249 for the entire system. It's very high-tech and works with our current transmitter. We have a great contact with Coyer Enterprises which will allows to do a group buy for the 2011 Season for a much reduced price. Interested parties, please let me know. If you don't rent or have your own timer, you won't be able to get a time for the events. We'll have the group-buy information available soon.
In addition, we request that for this event, you ensure that your assigned vehicle number is in a highly visible location, and that for each run you ensure that it is clean and legible. We intend to use the same numbers as the last event to make sign-up as easy as possible.
That's it for now. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope to see all of you on Sunday, December 12th, 2010 at Hula-X!
