The heat races for the stock car classes have just finished and the water truck gives the track a quick spray as the gradeall adjusts a few tires between stock car track turns 2 and 3 to create a chicane for the otherwise oval track. Today's chicane is much broader than the one created for last mont's event, and not as wet, which should provide for better passing and faster racing. Pairs of cars are brought out for three laps each to both provide a little practice time as well as to work the water into the track. The only significant action in this practice was the failure of the 13 driven by Clifton Poteet. Cliff had obviously spent many hours making sure the 13 looked good for the event with a very patriotic approach, but the engine failed Cliff with what sounded like a worsening rod-knock that seized up after his second practice lap, forcing him to be towed off the track. Once everyone had a chance to learn the circuit and the track was deemed ready it was time forthe HulaCross heat races.

Although we mentioned at the driver meeting that we would not have the August 4th race, we have decided to add in Sunday, August 4th, as a Stock Car race day. This will allow those racers that have not yet qualified, a last chance opportunity to qualify for the August 31st race without a "buy-in".
We will also have the Trophy Dash Race on this day. Based on the registered driver turn-out for this day, the racers with higher points standings will qualify for the Trophy Dash.
We will have the trophy presentation of the winners on the night of August 31st.
We apologize for the confusion and hope to see you all out on Sunday.

Today's event finds us with bright blue skies and fluffy white clouds. It's a warm day, although cooler than it's been for the last week, and this really places a high demand on the drivers who need constant hydration and a little time in the shade in order to keep their cool.
Practice and hot laps complete, the first group of cars up for the beginning of the heat races will be the Modified class. On the pole is the 85 and next to him the 27. On the 2nd row we have the 18 next to the 25 and on the final row are the 50 and a new driver Jeremy (Boy) Moniz in the white 07. At the start of the race Tabangcura gets a good start and has the 85 in front while Peterson tucks the 27 in closely behind then it's one car back to the black #18 of Moniz and dropping back three of four more car lengths over the next lap. It's been mostly single file and by lap five Tabangcura has a five car length lead over second place and the gap is growing. It's a little bit dusty, but bearable so, with a little maintenance the track will hopefully hold up throughout the day. The 07 of Boy Moniz has been running carefully at the back of the pack and is getting lapped by the leader so he stays high to let the faster cars through. Peterson had been able to close the gap as they negotiated past the 07 and gets up towards Tabangcura's bumper at the finish, but the white flag flies and there's no opportunity fo him before the checkers fly. At the finish Tabangcura in front followed by Peterson, Chad Moniz in the 18, Muraoka driving the 25, Kovaloff in the 50 and rounding out the field; Boy Moniz in the 07.
