Introduction - KRP Project Scope and Phases
Written by Administrator Saturday, 24 May 2008 10:37
Save Oahu's Race Tracks, LLC have endeavored to construct a temporary multi-purpose motorsports facility known as Kalaeloa Raceway Park (KRP). Located on the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station, KRP will be constructed on a 19+ acre site known as Parcel 24 just off of Coral Sea & Tripoli Street. Members of the Oahu Motorsports Advisory Council are assisting with planning, design, and implementation of the project.
KRP is envisioned to provide a temporary home for the majority of Oahu's displaced racing community since the closure of Hawaii Raceway Park (HRP) in April 2006. The park, when fully constructed, will support multiple venues at the same time including drag, dirt, drift, road, moto, and go-kart racing. Compared to HRP, the facility will be a marked improvement concerning safety. It is being designed with ample runoff room, easy ingress and egress, as well as improved parking and track layouts. The park is also expected to have a sizable impact on the local economic and social economies as well as offering a safe alternative for improving driver skills and promoting family-oriented activities.
